Quarterly Meeting Minutes

October 28, 2006

 

The Quarterly meeting of the Oconomowoc Historical Society was called to order at 10:01am by President Ed Johnson at the museum. Approximately 50 people were in attendance.

Secretary’s Report:

  • President Ed Johnson asked for a motion to dispense with the reading of the July 29, 2006, Quarterly Meeting minutes. Motion approved. Motion made to approve the July 29, 2006, Quarterly Meeting minutes. Motion approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • John Fishleigh reported the Society was ahead on the finances for the Historical Society and that expenses were down. If you would like to see a copy of the exact figures, he would be happy to share them with you after the program.

Membership:

  • Barbara Elwood-Goetsch reported signing up three new members today and our membership is at 327 members/singles and couples (not counting the new members), 8 organization and 32 complimentary memberships. Barb will be taking membership renewals after the program.

Local History:

  • Betty Hancock reported the committee was pleased to have copies of the Lavinia Rockwell Letters ready for purchase at today’s meeting for $10. We also acquired 4 copies of Captain Pabst and the Grand Army of the Republic donated by LuLu Van Antwerpen and they are for sale at $40 each.

Artificts:

  • Marjorie Day reported that the museum received 57 donations this year and many of the donations included several items. She also thanked her committee for all their hard work.

Fund Raising:

  • Margie Krauski presented “Doorways of Oconomowoc” to the members. This poster will be the premium for donors of $100 and up in the 2007 appeal and will be available for sale later next year. There is a legend on the 22 doors pictured included with the poster but it will not come framed.
  • Ed Johnson reported that the Historical Society received a $10,000 grant from the Oconomowoc Area Foundation to commence with the second DVD. This one will contain the Civil War through the Depression and will hopefully be ready next year for the 2008 appeal.

Nominating:

  • Dorothy St. Thomas thanked Mary Hart for completing her second term of three years and listed the directors completing their first term who are also willing to run for a second three year term: Fran Durkin; John Fishleigh; Duane Thorsen and Don Wiemer.  New nominees for the three open positions are: Ed Johnson, who is moving from an appointed member to an elected member; Barbara Hirsch, recently retired as Principal of the Summit School; and Bill Marris, who is a retired from an investment and insurance business. Motion was made to close nominations and to accept the proposed nominees. Motion carried. Dorothy mentioned that Bruce Todl was also on the nomination list until his sudden death. She thanked the family for including the Historical Society in their memorial list.

 

Meeting adjourned at 10:16am.
