OCONOMOWOC HISTORICAL SOCIETY

QUARTERLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING

January 26, 2008

Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Conference Center

 

 

1.  The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Terry Ladwig at 10:03 am.  Ladwig extended a warm welcome to attendees who braved the snow to come.

 

2.  Secretary’s Report: It was moved by Ed Johnson and seconded by Duane Hoffman to suspend the reading of the previous quarterly meeting’s minutes.  Motion carried.

 

3.  Treasurer’s Report: Ed Johnson reported that our fiscal year ended October 31, 2007 and that current tax returns have already been filed.  The Society is having a good financial quarter to date.  Details are available to those interested following the meeting.  It was moved by Marjorie Day and seconded by Linda Hasher to approve the report.  Motion carried.  Johnson also noted that former board member Karen Jensen assisted with new financial software conversion.

 

4.  Administrator’s Report:  Nancy Lins reported that the museum is closed until May but is open upon request by calling her.  She is generally at the museum on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Books and incentives are available after the meeting for perusal.  An attendance sheet was circulated.

 

5.  Annual Campaign:  Hilton Neal reported that this year’s campaign incentive is Oconomowoc Oldies songbook and CD.  To date, donations lag behind last year.  Non-members were encouraged to join as members. 

 

6.  Special Guest:  Beverly Bartel of Beverly Designs spoke briefly.  The Downtown Merchants Assn. has kicked off “Focus First Fridays” to bring shoppers to the downtown during this year’s street construction.  Her store is donating proceeds from all 5-9pm sales on Friday, Feb. 1 to the Society. The Society has loaned an 1890’s era jacket and hat for her window display.  All were encouraged to participate on Feb. 1. Drawings for prizes will be awarded. 

 

7.  Committee Reports:

A.  Exhibits:  Shirley Hinds reported that her committee is working on a wartime exhibit from the Civil War through the Vietnam War, plus a Victorian Era display.

 

B. Artifacts:  Marjorie Day reported that artifacts continue to be received and are catalogued and displayed as appropriate.

 

C. Education:  Barb Elwood-Goetsch reported that her committee has begun outreach programs for small groups.  Improved signage within the museum and audio headsets for self-guided tours are also planned.

D.  Membership:  Elwood-Goetsch also reported that there are currently 371 members, 14 business memberships and 43 free memberships.

10. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 10:23 am.

 

Following the business meeting an encore and revised presentation of Postals of Oconomowoc was presented by Don Wiemer.
